evolutionary trends within the Anemone biflora complex
(Ranunculaceae, Anemone, sect. Anemone) distributed throughout
Central and South-West Asia (mainly at the territory of the former
Soviet Union - Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, etc.). anemone biflora and
10 segregate species were reevaluated, and on the basis of the
critical morphological and anatomical analyses one subsection,
three series and six species could be distinguished. Meanwhile, two
species are regarded as varieties of A. biflora and three species
names are recombinized as synonyms only. A key to the
representatives of this subsection is represented.

Iljinskja A.P. The cytotaxonomics analysis
of the species of section Odontarrhena (C.A.Mey.) Koch of the genus Alyssum L.
of the Ukrainian flora // Ukr. Botan. Journ. – 1987.- 43, N.3. – P. 19-23. Summary. The chromosome numbers have been determined
in five species of the genus Alyssum L. of the Ucrainian SSR flora and for three
taxons they have been given for the first time. A. murale Waldst. et Kit.
is represented only by diploid forms. A. longistylum (Somm. et Lev.)
Grossh. in Grossh. et Schischk. and A. gymnopodum Smirn.- only by tetraploid ones,
A.tortuosum Waldst. et Kit. and A. borzaeanum Nyar.- both by diploid
and tetraploid forms, each being considered in the taxsonomic ranc of the subspecies.
The analysis of the data on chromosome numbers and on
morfological-ecological-chorological peculiarities of the species
has permitted considering the problems of origin, evolution and phylogenetic
interrelations of the studied representatives of the genus Alyssum.
It is mentioned that introgressive hybridization is typical of them.
The cytotaxonomic analysis of the genus Alyssum species of the Ucrainian
SSR flora is summed up and it is indicated that the chromosome numbers
are determined for 19 species of the genus for 12 taxons out of them for the first time.
Ten diploids and seven polyploids grow in the studied territory, two species
are presented both by diploid and tetraploid subspecies.
Among polyploids there are two hexaploids, the rest- tetraploids.
The data obtained confirm the hypothesis of the authors that biological
partings are differentiated from east to west; thus the younger and polyploid
forms are located further to the west than their diploid initial types.
However, the species of the genus Alyssum of the Ukrainian SSR flora
are also characterized by the south-to-north differentiation of biological partings.
And therefore the polyploid types are located further to the north than their ancestral
diploid forms.

1-11. Summary. Systems of the Ptarmica Mill. and Achillea L. genera
developed and substantiated by the authors are dealt with in the
paper. The Ptarmica Mill. genus is recognized as an independent one
and is divided into 5 sections and 8 series: sect. Ptarmica (ser.
Ptarmica, ser. Biserratae Klokov et Krytzka; sect. Pectinatae (DC.)
Klokov et Krytzka; sect. Lingulata (Rchb. fil.) Klokov et Krytzka;
sect. Macrophylla (Rchb. fil.) Klokov et Krytzka; sect.
Anthemoideae (DC.) Klokov et Krytzka (ser. Ageratifoliae Klokov et
Krytzka, Barrelieranae Klokov et Krytzka, ser. Oxylobae Klokov et
Krytzka; ser. Rupestres (Rchb. fil.) Klokov et Krytztka; ser.
Atratae Klokov et Krytzka. The Achillea L. s. str. genus is divided
into 13 sections involving 8 series: sect. Ageratium Rchb. fil.;
sect. Filipendulinae (DC.) Afan.; sect. Micrantha Klokov et Krytzka
(ser. Micrantae Klokov et Krytzka; ser. Leptophyllae Klokov et
Krytzka; sect. Crythmifolia Ujhelyi; sect. Ochroleucae Klokov et
Krytzka; sect. Nobilia Klokov et Krytzka (ser. Nobiles Klokov et
Krytzka, ser. Virescens Klokov et Krytzka, ser. Micranthoides
Klokov et Krytzka); sect. Millefolium (Mill.) Koch (ser.
Millefoliatae DC., ser. Asplenifoliae Klokov et Krytzka,
ser.Setaceae Klokov et Krytzka, ser. Tanacetifoliae Klokov et
Krytzka); sect. Babounya (DC.) Boiss.; sect. Achillea; sect.
Allepicae Klokov et Krytzka; sect. Creticae Klokov et Krytzka;
sect. Arthrolepis (Boiss.) Boiss. Existing phyllogenetic relations
between the sections are discused. It is supposed that the Achillea
L. s. str. genus may be divided into two genera: Millefolium Mill.
and Achillea L. and the Babounya (Boiss.) Boiss. section may be
given the genus status.

Outcrops Flora of the Right-Bank Grassy Steppe // Ukr. Botan. Journ.
- 1988. - 45, N 4. - P. 15-19. Summary. The endemic element of flora of the steppes and
limestone outcrops is characterized for the Right-Bank Black Sea
area within the Right Grassy Steppe. The endemic species depending
on geografical pecuuliatities of areas are divided into euendemics,
confinite and extensive subendemics. The chronological
categorization of euendemics (20 species) and commite subendemics
(47 species) making up 7,1 % of species composition of the flora has
revealed a preedominating number of neoendemics (6 paleoendemics, 18
mesochronoendemics, 43 neoendemics). This evidences for a
relative youth of the flora existing since Pliocene and for
proressiveness of endemism which is featured by the presence of
species groups or certain species with close genetic relations.

Corispermum pacificum is closely related to the Asian taxa, C.
crassifolium Turczaninov and C. maynense Ignatov; C. pallidum is
possibly related to C. macrocarpum Bunge ex Maximowicz; all other
native North American taxa are allied to the C. pallasii Steven
aggregate. Nomenclature of C. pallasii [= C. leptopterum
(Ascherson) Iljin = C. sibiricum Iljin subsp. baicalense Iljin = C.
bjelorussicum Klokov & Krasnova], C. villosum Rydberg, and C.
americanum (Nuttall) Nuttall is discussed. Two new varieties are
described: C. americanum var. rydbergii Mosyakin and C. hookeri
var. pseudodeclinatum Mosyakin.
Corispermum ochotense Ignatov, a species recently described from
the northeastern part of the Russian Far East, is reported from
Alaska and northwestern Canada, where it is represented by two
varieties. Corispermum ochotense var. alaskanum Mosyakin differs
from the typical variety in having larger fruits. Preliminary
results of the study of the genus in North America are discussed.

Zaverucha B.V., Minarchenko V.M. The theoretical principles of phytotherapy resource surveys
// Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 2000. - 37, N 3. - P.243-250 Summary.The crucial importance of phytobiota in general, and medicinal plants in particular,
is demonstrated. The research on resources of medicinal plants is vital for the national health
care system and for providing raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry.
The natural resources of medicinal plants shoud be regarded as the national wealth of Ukraine.
The theoretical principles of phytotherapy resource surveys are based on the following biological laws:
eidologic bioquantization (the continuum of biota is divided into genetically, geographically,
ecologically determined collective biological entities [units] - eidants, or natural species);
populational structurization (every eidant has its own populational structure, and vice versa,
populations belong to certain eidants); florocomplex differentiation
(populations of eidants are components of florocomplexes,
where they can perform their resource potential);
biomorphological differentiation (every vascular plant is differentiated into organs and structures;
use of plants organs and parts as resources affects the plants and their populations in different ways).

family populations have been analyzed in three aspects:
population-morphological, ontogenetical and ecologo-phytocenotic.
A degree of the Orchidaceae study in these aspects, as well as that
of certain Orchidaceae groups are different. The researchers pay
more attention to the population study of the tuber-root species
of Orchidaceae than of the rhizome ones.

Structure of populations of rare species (with special reference to
the genus Epipactis Zinn (Orchidaceae)) and trends of its changes
under the influence antropogenous factor // Ukr. Botan. Journ. -
1996. - 53, N 6. - P. 690 - 695. Summary. Populations of genus of Epipactis Zinn were studied in
various phytogeographical regions of Ukraine. Most of them are
characterized by the low number of individuals, incomplete age
spectra and declining vitality. Only populations of E. palustris
have high number of individuals, complete age spectra, but declining
vitality. That is why the conservation measures are necessary for
rare as well as for widespread species of the genus Epipactis.
It is discovered, that species of Epipactis not only can
stand the weak (insignificant) antropogenous influence ( moderate
degree of grazing and mowing, recreation of I, II degrees), but
respond positively to it, if it provides better ecological conditions.
Therefore, differential approach to the protection of these rare
species is necessary, because in some cases a weak antropogenous
disturbance may cause positive changes of the state of populations.
However, more considerable antropogenous influence usually has the
destructive effect on the populations of rhizomatous orchids.
Timchenko I.A. The conservation status of species of the tribe
Neottieae Lindl. (Orchidaceae) of Ukrainian flora and some ways of
optimize its protection // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1999. - 56, N 6. -
P. 617 - 620. Summary. The results of analysis of distribution, ecological and
coenotic peculiarities, the present state of populations of species
of tribe Neottieae allow to determine its conservation status.
According to categories of IUSN the species are distributed as
follows: vulnerable - 5, rare - 7 species. It is underlined that
the conservation measures are necessary for all Ukrainian species
of tribe both enough spread and rare species because the present
state of its populations are often unsatisfactory at protected
areas. The approach to the conservation of orchid populations must
be differential with use both passive and active conservation
measures.

Trinia, Rumia and Ledebouriella (Apiaceae) for the aims of their
systematics // Botan. Journ. - 1978. - 63, N 8. - P. 1102-1120. Summary. The article presents data on the anatomical study
of fruit of some representatives of the genus Trinia, as well as
Rumia and Ledebouriella. All the three genera with respect to the
peculiarities of anatomical structure of pericarp form a closely
related group. There are however some substantial differences
speaking in favour of distinguishing these genera. Among
anatomical characters worth pointing uot as generic ones is the
presence of large costal extrafascicular secretorial receptacles
of schizolysigenous type (along with the epithelium collaps, the
transverse septs degenerate as well). It is the kind, and not the
quantity of the receptacles that is a valuable diagnostic
character at the specific level.
Among common structural features in all taxa studied one
must mention the strictly three-layered of the pericarp, the
presence of cells with chinked-reticular thickennings in
the middle layer, the double vascular bundles in the primary and
their absence in the secondary ribs and vallecules, the
endosperm of orthospermal type. In each species all these
structures possess their own peculiarities.
Arkhangelsky D.B., Fedoronchuk N.M. Pollen morphology of the genera Trinia,
Rumia, Ledebouriella and Saposhnikovia (Apiaceae) // Botan. Journ. - 1979.
- 64, N 2. C. 191-198. Summary. The pollen grains of genera studied are of
threegroove-oratous type, from elliptic to long-polar-axial.
Grooves are long, wide (Trinia, Rumia) or short and narrow
(Ledebouriella, Saposhnikovia). Orae are roundish (Trinia frigida),
equatorially stretched - elliptical (the rest species of Trinia
and Rumia), or equatorially stretched with constriction in the
middle and covered with edges of grooves (Ledebouriella,
Saposhnikovia). The sculpture of exina is rugilosa (Trinia) or microtorulose
(Rumia, Ledebouriella, Saposhnikovia). As to stratification of
exina the pollen grains do not reveal sharp differences: the exina
is of almost the same thickness along the circumference of the
grain and consists of three main layers - nexina, mexina and
sexina. In T. kitaibelii the layer of mexina on the equatorial
part of the grain is thickened twice or trice, which agrees with
carpoanatomical and karyological insulation of the species. Palynological
data confirm the indipendence of closely related genera
Trinia, Rumia and Ledebouriella.

anatomycal characteristics of leat nodes and petioles of the
species Crataegus L. // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1985. - 42, N 1. - P.
9-14. Summary. Results of a comparative and anatomical study of
leaf nodes and petioles are presented for species of the
Crataegus L. genus growing in the Ukraine (29 species). All
investigated species are characterized by the same type of the
node (three-lacune with three leaf traces) and approximately the
same structure of petioles. The size of epidermis cells, hypo-
derma development level, the ratio of phloem and xylem of the
central conducting bundle in the central part of the petiole, the
presence and thickness of the sclerenchymal membrane under the
phloem, the presence of crystals and calcium oxalate druses are
the most essential for the species diagnostication.

characteristics of the spermoderm structure of the species
Crataegus L. // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1985. - 42, N 4. - P. 40-44. Summary. The spermoderm structure is studied for the
Ukrainian species of the genus Crataegus L. The spermoderm is
formed by two slightly distinct covers: external and internal
integuments. The following characters of the spermoderm structure
may be used in systematic study of genus: size and form of
epidermal cells of the external integument, structure of integumental parenchyma,
the character of the cells conternt,
preservation of certain spermoderm structures under seed ripening.

of the species of family Rosaceae Juss of Ucrainian Carpathian flora // Ukr.
Botan. Journ. -1986. - 43, N 6. - P. 30-34. Summary. Microsporogenesis of six species of the family
Rosaceae Juss. is studied at the population level Deviations in
meiosis are found manifested in the delay of chromosomal
conjugation, formation of univalents, micronuclei and polyades
which result in appearance of polymorphic and sterile pollen
grains. The data on fertility of pollen grains in 18 populations
are presented. It is observed that species which are reproduced
by the apomixis and grow on high-lands are characterized by the
highest quantity of sterile, polymorphic pollen grains.

Pollen of Certain Species of the Rosa L. Genus of the Ukraine
Flora // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1987. - 44, N 1. - P. 36-41. Summary. Morphology of pollen of 13 species of the Rosa L.
genus was studied by light and scanning electron microscopy.
Results of the experiment are presented. Pollen grains of all the
studied species are established to belong to the same aperture
type - trisulcate poriform. The taxonomic estimation is given to
certain palynomorphological characters. Considerable variation in
the value of pollen grains is observed for a variety of species,
that may be associated with apomyxis and hybridization which are
widely distributed in the Rosa L. genus.
Fedoronchuk M.M., Savitsky V.D. Comparative and Morphological Analysis of Pollen
for Genera of the Family Rosaceae Juss. of the Ukrainian Flora
// Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1987. - 44, N 2. - P. 32-38. Summary. Results of the comparative palynomorphological
studies of 30 Rosaceae Juss. genera of the Ukrainian flora are
presented, analysis of the sporoderma sculpture being paid
special attention. The subfamily Rosoideae has proved to be the
most heterogeneous group. It is necessary to critically revise
the volume of certain tribes, disposition of genera and certain
species in this subfamily.
The palynomorphological data, in particular peculiarities
of the exin sculpture, give no grouds to consider subfamilies
Spiraeoideae, Maloideae, and Prunoideae-Amygdaloideae as
independent species. Similar types of sporoderma surface
ultrastructure in these taxons evidence for their parallel development,
as a result in the process of evolution a stable set
of characters (certain stream-like variants of the plant cover)
has appeared within each of taxons (subfamilies). This confirms
one of the biological regularities which consists in that the
natural selection in the process of evolution deals with a small
number of characters which permits plants to successfully fulfil
vital functions.

A revision of species of the genus Vicia l. (Fabaceae) in the flora of
Ukraine // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1996. - 53, N 5. - P. 587-597. Summary. Results of a critical revision of species of the genus
Vicia L. in the flora of Ukraine, and detalization of its
infrageneric system are presented. There are 39 species of Vicia
occurring in Ukraine. As compared to the recent revision of the
genus by N.N. Tzvelev for the "Flora of the European part of the
USSR", the following changes are proposed. The section Faba (Mill.)
Ledeb. is elevated to the subgenus Faba (Mill.) Reterm., which
includes three sections: sect. Pseudolatnyrus Tzvel., sect.
Laticarpae (Stankev.) Fedoronchuk, comb. nov., and sect. Faba
(Mill.) Ledeb. In the type section Vicia, two subsections are
distinquished: subsect. Grandiflorae (Radzhi) Fedoronchuk, comb.
nov., and subsect. Sativae (Buchenau) Fedoronchuk, comb. nov.
Records of V. pisiformis L. from the Crimea, records of V. grandiflora
Scop., V. pannonica Crantz and V. cordata Wulf. ex Hoppe
from the western regions of Ukraine (particularly the Carpathians),
and records of V. striata Bieb. and V. cordata from the Black Sea
area were not confirmed. Vicia boissieri Freyn, V. sordida Waldts.
et Kit. and V. biebersteinii Bess. ex Bieb. are recognized as separate
species. Instead of V. elegans, we report for Ukraine a species
described by S.V. Juzepchuk, V. heracleotica Juz. In the Crimea,
together with the typical form of V. narbonensis L., also occurs
f. joannis (S. Tam.) Fedoronchuk et Dubovik, comb. et stat. nov.
with leaflets incised at the top. This taxon has been described by
S.G. Tamamchyan from the Caucasus as a separate species, V. joannis S.Tam.
The nomenclatural citations, data on distribution, habitats,
and taxonomic notes are given for each species.

biflora complex (Ranunculaceae) in Central and South-West Asia: its
differentiation and affinities // Thaiszia. - Journ. Botan. - 1998. - 8. - P.
57-85. Summary. A study dealing with a discussion of the taxonomy and
evolutionary trends within the Anemone biflora complex
(Ranunculaceae, Anemone, sect. Anemone) distributed throughout
Central and South-West Asia (mainly at the territory of the former
Soviet Union - Tadjikistan, Uzbekistan, etc.). Anemone biflora and
10 segregate species were reevaluated, and on the basis of the
critical morphological and anatomical analyses one subsection,
three series and six species could be distinguished. Meanwhile, two
species are regarded as varieties of A. biflora and three species
names are recombinized as synonyms only. A key to the
representatives of this subsection is represented.

complex. - Kyiv: "Chernobilinterinform", 1997. - 38 p. Summary. This study deals with a discussion of the taxonomy and
evolutionary trends of the A. narcissiflora complex (Ranunculaceae
Juss., Anemone L., sect. Omalocarpus DC.) within the flora of the former
Soviet Union. Anemone narcissiflora L. and 13 segregate species
were reevaluated, and on the basis of critical morphological and
anatomical analyses only A. narcissiflora s.l. could be
distinguished. The conclusion of this study is that A.
narcissiflora consists of five subspecies and 11 varieties. A key
to the infraspecific taxa of and a taxonomic survey round out the
study.
Tsarenko O.M. Peculiarities of
geographic distribution of the species of Gypsophila L.
(Caryophyllaceae) in the flora of Ukraine // Ukr. Botan. Journ. - 1997.
- 54, N 6. - P. 545-550. Summary. The article provides an analysis of distribution of
species of the genus Gypsophila occurring in Ukraine. The main
center of the species diversity is located within the Ancient
Mediterranean region; it is apparently also the center of origin of
the genus. Patterns of distribution of the Ukrainian taxa of
Gypsophila are discussed; the main types of geographic ranges are
segregated. The maps of distribution of Gypsophila species in
Ukraine are provided.
